From the “Great Lakes Advocate”–19th December, 2012

Posted on 19th December, 2012 in Latest News

Below is the content of my contribution to today’s edition of the Great Lakes Advocate which appeared along with similar contributions from the Ministers of other Christian Churches in the area: This will be my first celebration of Christmas in Forster-Tuncurry and, from everything that I’ve been told about what happens here during the January holiday period, I am looking forward to the busy-ness that will come, and the chance to offer hospitality to those people who will be making the home – however temporarily – with us over that time. The chance to offer hospitality to visitors is a precious gift that we have been given, and which we are invited to pass on to others. Just as we have been given the great gift of Jesus in human flesh, we are invited to offer to others not gifts of material things but the gift of ourselves, in the way we make them welcome to our town, in the way we behave in the face of an increased population in our town, and, dare I say it, in the way we make those who visit us part of our community during their time with us. For those of us who claim the title of Christian this is not something foreign to who we are but an innate part of us. This is because we first have received the gift of God-made-flesh in Jesus, and have been changed forever because of what we have already received. At Christmas we celebrate with thanksgiving and joy the great gift of Jesus to humankind – but this gift is not mean to be kept to ourselves. On behalf of the members of the Catholic community of Forster-Tuncurry I would take this opportunity to wish you all a happy, holy, and, above all, safe Christmas and Christmas Season. We would ask your patience over the coming months as this website moves from ‘Under Construction’ to ‘Up and Running’, and would welcome your suggestions (via the ‘Contact Us’ page) on ways we could improve the website, and additional things you may wish to see included on our Parish website. Pax, Fr...
